ONLINE APPOINTMENT

Dental care for children is an essential part of our daily work. We adopt an early preventive approach. We recommend therefore two check-ups begining after birth. This will help us integerate your child into the norms of dental care and get him or her used to regular dental appointments. We lay great emphysis on integrating the parents. Our team works close and supports the parents taking care of their children's teeth.
Begining of 6 years of age, we start  with regular thourough tooth cleaning every 6 months. Needless to say, we believe milk teeth are equally important as permanent teeth and schould be given  equally special care.
If a dental treatment is necessary, we believe the child should be explained in age approperiate words about every step so that he or she does not have a traumatic experience. A traumatic experience should be avoided since it could lead the child to develop dental phobia in the future.

GLIMPSES OF OUR PRACTICE

Regular Dental Checkups for Children

Beginning after birth, we recommend our little patients to have two dental check-ups a year. Thus, from the very beginning, the children are accustomed to the dental examinations - it becomes the norm. The examination includes: assessment of the risk of caries, advice to parents on oral hygiene of their children, inspection of the oral cavity, motivation for prophylaxis. If necessary, applying a local fluorid gel to strengthen tooth enamel and last but not least to apply a sealant on the pits and fissures of the permanent molars.

Professional Tooth Cleaning for Children

From 6 years of age, we offer our little patients a comprehensive tooth cleaning every 6 months. Regular tooth cleaning among children and adolescents keeps their teeth and gum healthy and it is covered by the  governmental health insurance until18 years of age. In order to show potential weaknesses, we use  a dental plaque finder to color the child´s teeth. Areas that have been neglected during cleaning will then appear highlighted in color. We then discuss the results with the child and his or her parents and give suitable tips on the brushing technique. In this way, we could together improve the child oral hygiene and prevent tooth decay.

Pit and Fissure Sealant

Molar teeth have deep, fine grooves (also known as fissures) on their chewing surfaces. These grooves can be very difficult to keep clean. The toothbrush bristles are too thick to brush the base of the groove. Therefore, some of these areas are just impossible to clean thoroughly! This leads to an unwanted collection of plaque and food debris. If plaque and food particles are not frequently removed, this can result in tooth decay. Fissure sealants are thin coatings placed over the pits and fissures of molars and premolar to help form a protective layer. It stops the food from getting in the tiny grooves in the teeth and thereby, reduces the risk of tooth decay. The first step to placing a fissure sealant is to remove all of the food and plaque from the grooves. This process is quick and causes no discomfort. The tooth is then conditioned, washed and dried before the sealant is applied. For a fissure sealant to be effective, the tooth must be very dry while it is being placed, so cotton rolls or a rubber dam will be used to help keep the tooth dry. A blue light will be then used to set the material.

Management of Chalky Teeth

Molar incisor hypomineralisation ( MIH) or chalky teeth is a type of enamel defect affecting, as the name suggests, the first molars and incisors in the permanent dentition. MIH is considered a worldwide problem and usually occurs in children under 10 years old. As a result, these teeth are discoloured, less hard and brittle like chalk. The teeth are usually hypersensitive. Chewing and tooth brushing are difficult. In principle, the treatment should be conservative and depending on the severity of case, this ranges from applying sealants to minimally invasive fillings and non-invasive crowns with Hall technique.

ICON Resin infiltration therapy

Resin infiltration therapy is a micro-invasive approach to treating white spot lesions. It provides therapeutic and esthetic results, while minimizing the extent of invasive interventions such as veneers and crowns. This treatment technique is designed to be an ultraconservative alternative option to other esthetic treatments.
