PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY

WHAT WE DO BEST

PROFESSIONAL TOOTH CLEANING FOR CHILDREN:

From 6 years of age, we offer our little patients a comprehensive tooth cleaning every 6 months. Regular tooth cleaning among children and adolescents keeps their teeth and gum healthy and it is covered by the  governmental health insurance until18 years of age. In order to show potential weaknesses, we use  a dental plaque finder to color the child´s teeth. Areas that have been neglected during cleaning will then appear highlighted in color. We then discuss the results with the child and his or her parents and give suitable tips on the brushing technique. In this way, we could together improve the child oral hygiene and prevent tooth decay.

REGULAR CHICK UPS AND PARENTS ADVICE:

Beginning after birth, we recommend our little patients to have two dental check-ups a year. Thus, from the very beginning, the children are accustomed to the dental examinations - it becomes the norm. The examination includes: assessment of the risk of caries, advice to parents on oral hygiene of their children, inspection of the oral cavity, motivation for prophylaxis. If necessary, applying a local fluorid gel to strengthen tooth enamel and last but not least to apply a sealant on the pits and fissures of the permanent molars.

CHILDREN DENTAL TRAUMA (EMERGENCY TREATMENT):

Dental trauma could occur in all age groups. However, it is seen to be more critical among children and adolescents due to its potential infleunce on their growth and development. Neglected or incorrect therapy could lead to a lifelong need for dental therapy in those affected. Due to our advanced training in the field of paediatric dentistry and endodontics, we are able to offer our young patients a therapy carried out according to the current clinical guidelines.

CARIES MANAGEMENT FOR MILK AND PERMANENT TEETH:

We concentrate on early diagnosis of dental cavities. This could be achieved using high magnification and illumination. In addition, we use laser supported diagnosis to help us recongnize the dental cavities in their early stages. Upon diagnosis depending on the stage of the dental cavities and the cooperation of the child, we recommend a wide spectrum of treatments ranging from non-invasive therapy using Silver diammine fluoride or children crowns using Hall technique to dental fillings with composite resine.

VITAL PULP THERAPIES

Vital pulp therapies (VPTs) aim to preserve the vitality of the pulp. We lay great emphysis on VPTs in order to keep the pulp of the tooth vital for as long as possible. By such,  we could maintain the vitality of the root pulp after opening the crown pulp even following crown fracture or deep cavities. The option is highly recommended by the American and the European associations of endodontics for milk teeth in order to preserve them as space-maintainers, and for permanent teeth especially when the growth of their root is not yet fully completed, in order to allow a complete formation of the root tip.

MANAGEMENT OF MOLAR INCISOR HYPOMINERALISATION (CHALKY TEETH):

Molar incisor hypomineralisation ( MIH) or chalky teeth is a type of enamel defect affecting, as the name suggests, the first molars and incisors in the permanent dentition. MIH is considered a worldwide problem and usually occurs in children under 10 years old. As a result, these teeth are discoloured, less hard and brittle like chalk. The teeth are usually hypersensitive. Chewing and tooth brushing are difficult. In principle, the treatment should be conservative and depending on the severity of case, this ranges from applying sealants to minimally invasive fillings and non-invasive crowns with Hall technique.
